Proper behavior at a convention is just like one of the New England States:
It's "Con Etiquette" :) (couldn't resist, one of my puns!)

A couple days in Connecticut

Wed--took just over 2 hours to get to Enfield where I had lunch at the Olive Garden. Then I drove into
Hartford. Previous trips to that city were on holidays so I couldn't take the State House tour. This
time, I did...also saw the museum across the street. Both were free (and enjoyable) and parking was free
as well. They even got to show us the governor's office and we got a Gov. Rell pen.

Then to the motel in Southington (6, of course). Went for a drive that took me back into Hartford and
I thought, "maybe I can make the Rock Cats game tonight in New Britain...but I'd better eat now so I
don't have to rush". That meant an early dinner at Black Eyed Sally's (Asylum St.), a great BBQ
place/blues bar. Pulled pork, beer, nice chips and slaw and pecan pie. Excellent!

Brief stop at my motel--wondered if the thunderstorms they promised would be bad. Turned out they were.
I took a chance and headed toward New Britain but the rain started to come down, and hard. Vivid
lightning. It was obvious soon that the game would be washed out (and it was) so I just headed back
to the motel and took it easy. Many power outages and downed trees.

Thu--partly to mostly sunny--lower temps, low humidity! Nice. Drove on Rt 10 south toward New Haven
through some very nice towns. In Branford, I wound up going on the Sea Mist , a 45 minute cruise (guided)
through the scenic Thimble Islands. Perfect--slightly cool weather. Ate lunch at Dragon East in
Branford, a nice Chinese place I've been to before.

Then back up toward Hartford where I went to see the Conn. Historical Society. Great exhibit on the slaves who caused the mutiny of the Amistad; Colonial history, etc. From there, a brief visit to the Roaring
Brook Nature Center in Canton. Brook was not so roaring due to drought; nature museum (stuffed
foxes and raccoons...even a _live_ death's-head-cockroach. No, he wasn't wearing a mad scientist's
garb like Uncle Kage! A brief walk, then dinner at the Dakota in Avon (chain of steak houses with good
salad bars, in NY/western MA/CT/VT, though the VT ones are known as Sirloin Saloons).

Then a nice drive up Rt 10 into Mass. (Southwick, Westfield), picked up Mass. Pike, and back home.

>>Gov. Rell

Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R) took over after John Rowland had to resign in disgrace over a scandal. She's said to be fairly moderate and works well with the
mostly-Dem. legislature. CT is one of those states where the Gov. and Lt.
Gov. can be from separate parties...and the Lt Gov is a Dem. so if she leaves mid-term for some reason there would be a change in power.

About 15 years ago in Vermont there was a certain morning when Gov.
Richard Snelling (R) passed away. The new governor was a Democrat...
Howard Dean. We're going to Rutland! And Bennington! And St. Johnsbury!
Then we're going to Burlington! and Brattleboro! And Shelburne! Then
we're going to Montpelier to take back the State House! Aarrgggh!!!! :)
